Homeowners can claim a 30 percent federal tax credit (up to $2,000 per year) on the cost of a heat pump water heater, plus installation. Learn more about this tax credit on the ENERGY STAR site. Water heaters are a significant consumer of energy in your home, second only to your HVAC system. The great news is that the Premier AL has been designed to dramatically decrease the cost of operation. In fact, the Premier AL can translate into quite significant savings for the homeowner over the course of its lifespan. Just how significant? With up to 3.88 UEF (Uniform Energy Factor) rating (compared to an average .93−.95 UEF rating of a standard electric model), this innovative water heater can cut annual operating costs by up to 78%.
At the top of the hybrid electric heat pump tank water heater unit, a fan draws in air from the surrounding space through an evaporator. After absorbing heat from the air, the refrigerant in the evaporator runs through a compressor to raise temperature and pressure. The heated refrigerant goes through the condenser coil around the tank, transferring heat to the water. Instead of relying on electricity or gas to heat the water directly, State hybrid heat pump water heaters use the heat already available within your home to heat your water.
Heat pump water heaters (HPWH) use electricity to move heat from the air to water inside a tank instead of generating heat directly. Therefore, they can be two to four times more energy efficient than conventional electric resistance water heaters. Heat pumps work like reverse refrigerators to move the heat.
